After two brilliant years running our print shop, we’re going to be making some changes at Submarine.

It’s been wonderful having it, but at the end of the year we’ll be closing our gallery/shop space on Kent Street, and from January the shop will be online only. We’re both looking forward to taking more time to focus on our own creative practices.

We’ll still be using Kent Street as our design studio, and you’ll be able to view artists work by appointment and collect orders from us. We also plan on doing more markets and pop-ups so keep an eye out on social for opportunities to buy in person!

Thank you to all you amazing customers who’ve visited our shop over the past couple of years. The banter’s been great, and we’ve loved letting you see the work of our talented group of artists. But remember we’re not going anywhere online, and we hope to see you in some different locations next year!

Mandy & Mark

We’ll be open in December on the following days up to Christmas so drop-in and have a browse:

Thursday & Fridays 10–2
Saturday 10th 10–3
Saturday 17th 10–3
Sunday 18th 10–3

Order ASAP to ensure delivery by Christmas.

Due to Royal Mail strikes and subsequent delays we can’t make any guarantees for Christmas deliveries. Order as soon as possible, or if you can, use our click and collect service.

The time now feels right to have an exhibition at Submarine and we’re excited to welcome you to our first show in September.

Artist Mandy Maria, owner of Submarine, will be featuring a body of new still life works with themes around summer light, shadow play and fresh colours.

We’ll post an update soon so keep an eye out for more details, or sign-up to our Newsletter for updates.

The Barras sheds are getting a makeover! Celebrating its centenary last year, the buildings were in need of a bit of TLC.

We’ve mixed feelings as all the old paint and signage are removed or covered up. The final result will look shiny and new, but will anything be lost, will our eyes adjust?

It’s been interesting watching out the window as different green paint swatches go up. Green is a notoriously tricky colour to get right as us humans have clever eyes and can perceive greens down to the finest nuance. Our eyes have evolved to be more sensitive to green frequencies than any other colour due to our evolution in luscious green forests when we were primates.

We’re looking forward to the end result though, and having some fresh new backdrops for our picture posing!

To be continued…

We’re into our second year and we’ve decided to clean up the walls. We have such a diverse mix of works now we wanted all the pieces to pop on white crisp walls. Saturated colours can really enhance the mood of a place but keeping things simple in the gallery feels like the right direction, and complements our new look website, don’t you think!
